According to the American Dental Association, there were a total of 2.2 million ER visits in 2015 for dental issues. The cost of these ER visits was approximately $2 billion with an average visit costing $749. Most importantly, about 79% of these visits could have been diverted to community settings and up to 70% of these visits occurred after hours. Majority of these ER visits are due to toothache and do not require major procedures.
